  • Heather Schilling

    FOUNDER AND CHAIR

Dr. Heather Schilling is a lifelong educator, with over three decades of teaching at the high school and collegiate levels. The greatest gift of teaching is the opportunity to empower others - empower them to realize that regardless of the situation, their mindset matters.

On December 21, 2021, Heather’s daughter, Elizabeth, lost her battle with stage four brain cancer the day before her 29th birthday. Connecting the importance of living intentionally and reflection of her daughter’s journey with a terminal illness, Heather’s presentation engages the audience to consider their own lives – their impact on others around them – even their impact on the world. Offering specific steps people can take, Heather leaves her audiences considering how they will live intentionally.

  • Lucas Schilling

    Lucas Schilling

    TREASURER

Lucas Schilling, Elizabeth’s only sibling, joins the board excited to support his sister’s vision and passion for supporting brain cancer research. He believes, like Elizabeth, that life is short, and we should live each life to its fullest.

In the spring of 2019, Lucas graduated with honors from DePauw University (Greencastle, Indiana) with a computer science major and economics minor. As an active member of DePauw’s Management Fellows Program, he developed leadership and critical thinking skills as well as had opportunities to complete a variety of internships. He is also a proud member of DePauw’s Xi chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity, one of the original twelve chapters established in 1859.

Currently, Lucas is a Technical Integrations Specialist with a workforce management company based in Massachusetts, a position which allows him to use his gregarious personality as he supports customers implementing software. Lucas resides in Indianapolis with his fiancé, Ali, and their dogs Mac and Marvin and their cat, Mojo. In his spare time, Lucas enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, being outdoors, and rooting on the Saints.

Currently, Brian serves on the national Hardwood Manufacturer’s Association board of directors, where he also previously served as an executive director.

On January 19, 2014, Elizabeth was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after arriving in Denmark for a semester studying abroad. Over the course of her health journey, Elizabeth’s family was inspired countless times by other patients, caregivers, and caring medical professionals. Inspired by Elizabeth’s consistently quick “yes” when asked to participate in research studies, Brian spends time in a leadership role for the Elizabeth Schilling Adjust Your Sails Foundation, Inc.

Brian’s support of The Elizabeth Schilling Adjust Your Sails Foundation, Inc. is founded in honoring the spirit of his daughter’s passion for living and her desire to contribute to future advancements in the treatment of brain cancer by raising important funds to support brain tumor and brain cancer research.
